An SEO contest is a competition that challenges Search Engine Optimization professionals and amateurs alike to rank themselves highest - among the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN using particular unranked keyword(s).

This year http://www.seoworldchampionship.com/ launched the first annual SEO "World Championship".

The main challenge of the contest is for a site to rank as high as possible on the search engine results for the big 3 search engines, by using white hat or `organic' methods.

Non-Organic SEO, or blackhat SEO are terms to describe SEO methods which are not approved by search engine guidelines, such as cloaking, redirects, multiple sites, keyphrase stuffing, hidden links, and numerous others.

The winner of the SEO World Championship will be based on an average ranking between the selected search engines

The Keyphrase to optimize for is "globalwarming awareness2007" (an attempt by the organisers to increase/create worldwide awareness related to the issue of global warming). The target is to rank as high as possible on all three major search engines: Google , Yahoo and MSN.

The Keyword was announced 2007-01-15 13.00 PM EST(Eastern Standard Time). Final results will be checked on May 1st at 18.00 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time).
